Summit of the Future and the SDGs: Move the Nuclear Weapons Money

In follow-up to the UN Summit of the Future, UN Secretary-General António Guterres is undertaking an analysis of the impact of the global increase in military expenditure on achievement of the SDGs. UNODA has called for papers to feed into this review. 

In response, PNND has joined with eight other organizations in submitting a paper to UNODA on The UN Pact for the Future: Nuclear weapons spending and the Sustainable Development Goals in a turbulent world.

UN Human Rights Day (December 10): The right to life without threat from nuclear weapons

December 10 is UN Human Rights Day. It is also the day that the Nobel Peace Committee presents the 2024 Nobel Peace Prize to Nihon Hidankyo, the Japanese Association of nuclear bomb survivors. 

PNND commemorates Human Rights Day by commending Nihon Hidankyo and by promoting the human rights to peace and to life without the threat from nuclear weapons.

IPU Parliamentary pledge for peace: PNND roundtable on LAW not War

A declaration Parliamentary diplomacy: Building bridges for peace and understanding is adopted at the 148th Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union. PNND Global Coordinator Alyn Ware speaks at the IPU plenary prior to adoption of the declaration. PNND also holds a related roundtable discussion at the IPU Assembly on Addressing strategic and existential threats through common security and the rule of law.

PNND Co-President Senator Markey announces legislation to HALT the global nuclear arms race

On the 40th anniversary of the historic 1984 Nuclear Freeze Resolution adopted by the US House of Representatives, PNND Co-President Edward Markey introduces the Hastening Arms Limitation Talks (HALT) Act into the Senate to establish a 21st century freeze on the testing, production, and deployment of nuclear weapons. A companion bill is introduced in the U.S. House of Representatives by PNND Member Jim McGovern.
