Parliamentarians attendiong the 24th Annual Session of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly are cordially invited to attend a roundtable lunch discussion on the topic of Diplomacy, the United Nations and Nuclear Threats: Europe and the Middle East

Threats of nuclear weapons proliferation, deployment - and possibly even use - have increased due to global and regional conflicts, including in Europe and the Middle East. At the same time there is an increasing awareness that any use of nuclear weapons - whether by accident, miscalculation or terrorist intent - would create unprecedented humanitarian, environmental, economic and political consequences.

Diplomacy, through cooperative security organisations such as the OSCE and the United Nations, can help address or resolve these conflicts and facilitate nuclear risk reduction and disarmament.

This roundtable lunch will discuss current initiatives and the role of parliamentarians. It will include follow-up on nuclear weapons and security aspects of the Istanbul Declaration, adopted at the 22nd Annual Session of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly, and amendments on nuclear risk reduction being considered at the 24th Annual Session of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly.

Welcome:
